At Southern Lumber & Millwork, we believe strong relationships are an important part of building strong projects and a strong community. Since 1941, we’ve been proud to serve Charleston’s builders, architects, contractors, and other industry professionals who help shape the Lowcountry.

To us, being a local building material supplier means more than providing quality products. It means getting to know the people we work with, staying involved in the community we serve, and creating opportunities for our customers to connect, learn, and grow.

Staying Involved in the Community We Serve

Southern Lumber is an active member of local organizations and industry boards such as the Charleston Home Builders Association. Staying involved helps us keep up with policies, legislation, industry changes, and other issues that may affect our customers and Charleston’s building industry.

Many of our customers spend their days running businesses, managing projects, meeting with clients, and working on jobsites. By staying involved, we can better understand the issues affecting them, advocate for our local building community, and help keep our customers connected to information that matters to their work.

We enjoy getting to know our customers both personally and professionally. The better we understand their businesses, interests, and goals, the better we can support them. Sometimes that means making an introduction to a builder, architect, vendor, or other industry professional who shares similar goals or could be a valuable connection.

Whether that connection happens at an event, during a jobsite visit, or through a simple introduction, we enjoy bringing people together and helping create relationships that can support their goals and strengthen Charleston’s building community.

Creating Opportunities to Learn and Connect

Building products, techniques, and requirements are always evolving, which is why continuing education is another important way we support our customers.

Every other month, Southern Lumber hosts free AIA continuing education courses for local architects. These courses provide architects an opportunity to earn continuing education credits while learning directly from representatives of the manufacturers and products used in today’s building industry.

Just as importantly, they create an opportunity to meet manufacturer representatives face to face. Architects can ask questions, learn more about products and applications, and establish a contact they can reach out to when they need information or assistance on a future project.

Continuing Education for Builders

We believe builders should have opportunities to continue learning, too. Our annual Install Event brings builders, architects, and manufacturer representatives together for hands-on demonstrations, product education, installation best practices, and conversations about real-world applications.

These events give our customers the opportunity to ask questions directly, learn something new, and build relationships with the people behind the products they work with every day.

A Place to Meet and Collaborate

Our showroom at 2031 King Street Extension in Charleston, South Carolina, is another place where those relationships can come together.

Builders, architects, designers, contractors, and homeowners can see windows, doors, millwork, and other building products in person while discussing options with our team.

We also have two conference rooms available for our customers to use at no charge. Project teams can meet, review plans, discuss selections, and walk through the showroom together without having to travel between multiple locations.

Sometimes being able to stand in front of a product, look at plans together, and have a conversation face to face can make all the difference.

Relationships Have Always Mattered

After 85 years in Charleston, relationships remain an important part of how we do business.

We’re proud to stay involved in the community we serve, advocate for our customers, provide opportunities for continuing education, and connect people who may be able to help one another.

Whether it’s through the Charleston Home Builders Association, an AIA continuing education course, our annual Install Event, a jobsite visit, a meeting in our showroom, or simply making an introduction, our goal is the same: support our customers, bring good people together, and help Charleston’s building community continue to grow.
